InFocus wishes everyone a Happy Christmas and all the best in 2012. We look forward to helping you with all your insurance needs next year.

InFocus Insurance Blog Launched

Here at InFocus Insurance, we’re often asked to supply advice articles by industry titles or asked our opinions on topical issues affecting the photography industry.

We thought the time was right to launch or own dedicated blog where you can catch up with the latest news and views.  Check it out at: www.infocusinthepicture.co.uk/

Is your studio covered?

Here at InFocus, we’re insuring a growing number of studio photographers who come to us for a competitive quote.  In response to this we’ve launched a specialist policy, InFocus Studio, especially for studio photographers working in all areas.  Whether you’re a fashion, commercial, industrial or social photographer, we’ll make sure you get the best quote.

Do photographers need run-off cover?

Before you close your business, make sure no-one can ruin your retirement. We normally recommend twelve months cover as a minimum and six years as the ideal. Cover bought for longer spells isn’t that common but it’s a growing area for us. The risk of claims usually tails off with time unless you have a Groomzilla on your books! No-one wants to be stung by a claim from their past.

Guild doubles membership

the guild website

We’re pleased to report The Guild of Photographers, for whom we are the approved insurers, has doubled its membership over the past 18 months.

To The Guild was established in 1988 and has become one of the most respected photographic associations in the UK.  It offers members access to discounts, qualifications, training, mentoring and a members-only forum.

Protecting photographers online

Having received a growing number of enquiries from photographers troubled by online dangers. Our director Peter Stevenson warns photographers of the increasing risk of cyber related problems…

Keep your credentials in check

The recent case of a British couple who paid almost £1,000 for wedding photography by an alleged ‘professional’ highlights why brides should be checking YOUR credentials.

The ‘photographer’ provided blurred images of guests, empty seats and a picture of the bride with her head cut off.

If you’re a wedding photographer, make sure you put your potential clients’ minds at ease by providing them with references and evidence of your InFocus policy.

Blurred privacy law line for photographers

The police recently expressed their gratitude to professional photographers for the part they played in recording the serious crime that took place during the riots. However, at times police officers have been accused of overstepping the mark or failing to understand our laws regarding privacy and making images available to the public. It’s often a tricky relationship so photographer’s magazine ePhotozine invited our director Peter Stevenson to explain more.

Photovision roadshow Dublin

Our next stop on the Photovision Roadshow is Dublin…

Here at InFocus, we love attending the Photovision Roadshows, meeting up with photographers and giving advice.  In the last few months we’ve had a stand at both Manchester and Coventry and have met photographers specialising in all areas, from sports photography to wedding photographers to wildlife specialists.
