Most of the professional photographers we come across learn the trade by either teaching themselves and learning on the job, or studying in the classroom.

An increasing number of the photographers we come across today are embarking on open learning courses to learn the art of professional photography.   Students are taught online and interact with teachers and students via the internet.

Students can join in lectures by logging in via the internet and watching live streaming.  It’s clear that the world is becoming increasingly and digital e-earning is more popular than ever.

But is this the right forum for learning the skills of the photography profession?   Of course, it’s a great way to get instant feedback and share tips and advice from fellow enthusiasts but is it comparable to a traditional photography course, taught in the classroom?

With the growing use of digital, many believe that a background in traditional photography is no longer necessary.  Some of the professionals that we insure think darkroom training will soon become a thing of the past.  In contrast, others believe this basic learning enhances a photographer’s ability to take professional digital images.  If you’re a professional photographer or are aiming to become a professional, we’d love to hear what you think.
